This book was such an amazing read! I picked it up after Jason and Maria had read it. If you enjoy memoirs, you will really enjoy it. Jeannette Walls gives the term "hard knocks" a run for its money. She and her three siblings lived in many rough towns, and they were considered the rough ones if that gives you any idea. Her dad was a raging alcoholic, as well as an extremely intelligent man. Her mom was all consumed with trying to be an artist and writer. The kids did not attend school for many years and were pretty much allowed to just roam free. There were times when there dad would be gone for days and they would break into houses for food, or eat rotten, maggoty, ham that was on the shelf at home. I could go on and on about how rough they had it, but you get the idea. It was a real page turner! It's hard to imagine anyone could survive that kind of upbringing, but she and her siblings seem to pulled it off somehow.
